I do not need a cataloging utility, either. I used LR before, but didn't like the pricing or output, the latter could have been addressed by now, I imagine, not the former, though. Learning to use all SP's various capabilities takes time, for sure, but I think the quirkiness is almost kind of endearing. I probably will when I have more time to learn it and generally play around with photos.

If you want to play further with the JPEG (or uncompressed TIFF - which I don't at the moment, but accept your point on compression), then another software suite can be used - I have Affinity Photo, but, to be honest, rarely use it.

I think that the output JPEGs are brilliant quality and I do actually enjoy ISL's slow progress in adding new features - it's not overwhelming and they are welcome when they arrive. I am a hobbyist, but have used it for work - magazine publishing. I have spent many years on and off getting to grips with SP. I have no idea how popular SP is outside of Japan and its locale. I agree that the UI and documentation are challenges that could be addressed, assuming there is a large non-Asian audience for this software that is pressing for that. That fine detail image of yours looks really good. But I am looking forward to playing with the new tools. It hasn't prevented me using the tools, just makes it a bit more confusing, compared to before. In that latter case, if you exit the PCT, you are left with the unusual shadowing. This relates to the red highlighted area not switching off, requiring PCT exit then reselect the 'highlight selected area' button does not see the selected area highlighted, you have to click and hold the 'central diamond' to see it and I have an issue with two selected areas overlaying each other - one Graduated (to darken, the first) and Brush (to blur, the second and so over the first) - causing an unusual shadowing when the brush-selected area (blur) is selected and the 'highlight selected area' button is pressed. But I have found issues with Partial Correction Tool when processing RAW, of which I have notified ISL/SP. Workfklow tabs I am lukewarm on, nothing much in favour or against versus before for me. Speed of RAW processing is definitely better. I have only just started playing with it.

I have today downloaded Windows SP10 Pro. Here's a JPEG straight from the camera, (cropped for the web). There are 56 Artistic 'Tastes', (filters), included which can provide a starter effect to an image prior to further adjustment It can be applied to different elements in the photograph and works very well indeed. The Perspective Correction tool is very quick and intuitive. Adjustments are applied much quicker than in previous versions, most in real time but a few still in blocks. The new Adjustment Tab is where the main adjustments are undertaken. The new Print Tab is extremely flexible and useful, but missing the ability to change orientation without going to Printer Settings first.

The new Select Tab is a flexible and quick way of navigating folders to select an image or series of images 3 new tabs, Select, Adjustment and Print simplify workflow compared to previous versions Speed - definite improvement over previous versions
